Adder has released the AdderLink ipeps (IP engine per server) KVM over IP product, which the company's product marketing manager said is on par with KVM over IP on a per server basis but adds additional functionality and flexibility.

AdderLink ipeps offers system administrators the ability to securely access computers from anywhere in the world via the Internet or corporate network. Additionally, the KVM over IP product has been developed in a small form factor that enables network administrators to put up to 32 ipeps in a single 2U rack, said Richard Cawdery, product marketing manager at Adder.

According to Cawdery, the current development of the KVM market is seeing an increase in the number of users on a single KVM switch, and the logical endpoint is an infinite number of users with an infinite number of computers. However, limitations in KVM over IP technology have generally limited the number of users connecting at any time. AdderLink ipeps provides each computer with a dedicated KVM over IP engine that gains its power through PS/2 and/or USB ports. AdderLink ipeps is the first product to leverage Adventiq's on-chip KVM over IP technology, Cawdery said.

The product offers the flexibility of having anywhere/anytime control of servers from within or outside the local network, he said.

"The logical endpoint for that is KMV over IP per server," Cawdery said.

AdderLink ipeps offers administrators full control of the connected server down to the BIOS level, even after unexpected computer crashes or intentional restarts, he said. When used with ADDER.NET enterprise management software, AdderLink ipeps offers a non-blocking, multi-user, point-to-point KVM over IP solution with a centralized and secure management interface, Cawdery said. ADDER.NET provides secure single-click access to any authorized device and also provides an activity log for security and historical information.

Additionally, once a server goes down and restarted, AdderLink ipeps will be able to give the administrator full control within three seconds of it starting up, Cawdery said.

"I don't know any external KVM over IP device that will give you that speedy control," he added.

Another important feature is AdderLink ipeps' virtual media capabilities, which allows end-users to transfer files remotely using a simple drag-and-drop interface, Cawdery said. "We're trying to change the way people view the KVM infrastructure," Cawdery said.

For the channel, this represents the chance to offer something that others aren't offering at this point, he told eChannelLine.

"It's an approach that certainly the bigger players haven't gone down this road. What we're giving here is a genuine alternative that the bigger brand names aren't aware of. It gives the reseller a unique selling point," Cawdery said.
