STORServer announces new line of appliances for mid-to large enterprises

30 October, 2006

Colorado Spring CO-based STORServer has announced its new line of STORServer K6000 Backup Appliances featuring the full line-up of Qualstar XLS libraries. The new models provide backup, archiving and disaster recovery to mid-to large enterprises and combine both disk to disk (D2D) and disk to disk to tape (D2D2T). With up to 10TB of disk, hundreds of simultaneous backups from virtually all operating system platforms are possible.

"We see our customers' data growing at rapid rates, and their need for archiving that data is increasing right along with it," said Ellen Rome, STORServer vice president of sales and marketing. "Our new backup appliance will allow customers to receive the kind of quintessential backup security they need, whether it's every day or in case of a disaster."

Aimed at the diverse needs of growing companies, the new STORServer K6000 Backup Appliances are based on the highly modular Qualstar XLS family of Linear Tape-Open (LTO) tape libraries and feature capacities from 300 linear tape slots up to 6,085 slots in its largest configuration, providing unparalleled capacity.

The new K6000 models use IBM x3800 or x3850 series servers and either internal Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or external Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) storage shelves, all racked inside Qualstar XLS' 8U internal rack space, providing the perfect platform for the most demanding of backup, archive and DR environments.

The STORServer K6000 Backup Appliances begin at $220,000, which includes installation and one year of 24x7 support, backing up enterprises with 10-100TB of data. The K6000 captures 500GB-4Tb of changes per day and is sized to keep at least 45 days of data backups and archives online.
