Librato launches partner program

by Liam Lahey

Librato Inc., a provider of software solutions that increase the utilization of data center resources, has announced a global channel program to support value added resellers and partners. The San Mateo, Calif.-based company intends to leverage "old-school workload management concepts" with its line of modern workload management products and in turn provide solution providers with technologies that will take enterprise customers beyond virtualization.

John Wernke, Librato's vice president of marketing, said his company's solutions are designed to help organizations "get the most out of their data center infrastructure through server consolidation," job priority management and capacity planning, all in a non-disruptive way.

"We install as a user space application; we sit between the OS and the application . . . we can manage processes; you don't have to change your applications," he said. "Because we sit at the application layer we have a much richer set of information as well as providing the monitoring or control."

The program is ideal for systems integrators with expertise in large Windows and Linux deployments, especially in Web, database and grid environments, Wernke continued. Partners that have already signed onto the program include Dasher Technologies, Infiniware Inc. and IT Symphony. Demand for the company's innovative technologies is increasing, and skilled partners would provide customers with greater access to products and technical expertise for Librato's solutions.

"Our products enable better data center resource utilization while improving application quality of service. Especially in the current economic environment, companies aim to get the most out of their data center infrastructure through server consolidation, job priority management and capacity planning. Our products help them do that in a non-disruptive fashion to combine a high ROI and short pay-back," said Fred van den Bosch, CEO of Librato. "We are making a strategic commitment to the global reseller community so our partners can better educate customers, support deployments and meet the unique needs of each customer."

Librato solutions deliver predictable performance and optimize resources including CPU, memory and application licenses so that the data center can run as efficiently as possible. Librato's line of workload management products include: Load Monitor which captures resource demand and usage by application, user or group; Load Manager which dynamically allocates server resources according to business priorities; and Smart Suspend which provides preemptive scheduling for grid workloads. The company's high availability solution, Availability Services (AvS), provides checkpoint/restart/migration of jobs in grid environments. Librato's solutions require no modifications or changes to the operating system or application, enabling seamless deployments in existing environments, and helping companies meet SLAs while maximizing resource utilization and minimizing expenses.

Librato is focused on large enterprise deployments (100 servers or more). For potential partners, Librato's solutions provide a unique product, timely in its release, and it has the ever-popular 'green' aspect to it, Wernke added. Moreover, Wernke said Librato's solutions are easy to deploy, inarguably a plus for the channel as they can get operational quickly.

"The majority of resellers that we have . . . are focused primarily at grid type of solutions and workloads. Within that we're doing okay but . . . it's more of a mainstream compute environment that we're looking for," he explained. "The channel announcement is to say 'we're out here and we're looking to go with anyone with 100 servers or more that are looking to consolidate them down while dealing with the sticky parts of virtualization'."

"Our customers are under tremendous pressure to get the most out of their data centers -- all while managing increasingly strict IT budgets," said Al Chien, vice president of Client Solutions, of Dasher Technologies. "Librato's application-agnostic approach to increase utilization helps meet, and in many cases, exceed these goals by not requiring changes in the existing infrastructure. We are pleased to offer Librato solutions in our portfolio, and are experiencing increased demand for their products since they address such fundamental needs in todays data centers."
