Sun Microsystems has launched Sun Identity Compliance Manager, an identity management solution designed to help customers better manage business and compliance risks at a lower cost.

In the past six months, Sun has updated its entire management portfolio to offer a solution based on open access, open source and open standards. The suite now includes Sun Compliance Manager, Sun Role Manager, Sun Identity Manager and Sun OpenSSO Enterprise.

The Identity Compliance Manager automates the controls and reporting associated with identity compliance, allowing customers to implement complete and repeatable audits, monitor changes in user access and correct access issues immediately. In short, it allows customers to maintain compliance and responds to potential business risks in near real-time.

According to Mark Herring, Vice President of Marketing, Software Infrastructure, Sun Microsystems, the addition of Sun Identity Compliance Manager is a continuation of the company's goal of solidyfing its leadership position in the identity management market.

"With tight IT budgets, tougher regulations and security mandates to protect against internal and external threats, Sun Identity Compliance Manager offers customers an effective and automated solution to manage their challenging compliance needs head-on and potentially cut their compliance costs in half," Herring said.

Sun Identity Manager integrates with existing solutions, allowing customers to take advantage of existing applications for collecting access data and completing remediation requests.

Highlights of Sun Compliance Manager include:

Access Certification: Automates the consolidation and correlation of identity and access data across the enterprise, presents the collected data to the appropriate business owner for review and captures the audit trail of the entire process. The process for certifying access assigned to a user may be scheduled flexibly based on any segmentation of the user population, as well as triggered automatically based on important events that occur during a user's lifecycle, such as: on-boarding, transfers, off-boarding, etc.

Entitlement Glossary: Allows customers to capture, assign and manage descriptions of often cryptic IT entitlements in simple business terms. This helps ensure that business managers understand what they are reviewing and avoid "rubber stamping" their decisions.

Segregation of Duties Enforcement: Offers the ability to define and enforce security policies both within and across applications, delivering a comprehensive and out-of-the-box solution that enforces limits on the control one employee can have over key financial transactions.

Remediation Tracking and Validation: Allows users to initiate a request to correct erroneous access. These requests may be propagated automatically as part of change management systems, user provisioning systems or via email. Sun Identity Compliance Manager tracks the requests, validates the correction and captures the associated audit trail.

Compliance Dashboards and Reporting: Offers a number of compliance dashboards and reports that provide the compliance process owner with the relevant information needed to help ensure that proper controls are in place and the associated evidence is collected.

Sun Identity Manager is available now, with a base price of $75,000 U.S., in addition to a small per-user fee. Subscription-based pricing is also available.
