Panda Security enhances its Security-as-a-Service solution
21 October, 2008 By Erin Bell |

Panda Security has launched the latest version of its Security-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution, Panda Managed Office Protection 5.02.
Designed for small and medium businesses, Panda Managed Office Protection is designed to offer Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and value-added resellers (VARs) a robust and fully outsourced security service that allows businesses to concentrate on their core business without needing to invest in additional infrastructure.
Panda Managed Office Protection works by centralizing the management of desktop malware for all clients into a single Web console, which allows VARs and MSPs to manage their clients' local networks securely and remotely.
VARs and MSPs can offer the solution to SMBs or large organizations with branch offices as a fully outsourced long-term, value-added security service.
"With shrinking IT budgets, it is essential that companies big and small don't lose sight of protecting their assets and that of their customers," said Ryan Sherstobitoff, Chief Corporate Evangelist, Panda Security. "Panda Managed Office Protection provides small businesses with the confidence that their networks are secure without the additional resource investment, and enables the VARs offering it with a valued added security solution for long-term growth and success."
New features and improvements in version 5.02 include:
Custom branding: Security resellers now have the option to customize this service at all levels with their own logo, headers, and packaging.
Improved global client management: The improved management console interface summarizes key protection and license status information about all clients for better usability.
Greater integration with partners' management services: The new release allows partners to easily integrate their logos with routine client reports, thereby demonstrating the efficacy of the protection. A new Executive Report with information and graphs displays detection activity and protection status over the last 24 hours.
Reduced productivity losses for clients: Channel partners can now offer clients the highest levels of protection with a minimal use of resources. This is made possible through an optimized system of peer-to-peer (P2P) updates across local networks to minimize bandwidth consumption.
Through the management console, management tasks can be delegated to any user who has been granted administration or monitoring privileges. The console also allows client organizations to be structured in multiple layers for greater flexibility.
The product is also enhanced by proactive malware protection courtesy of Panda Security's proprietary cloud computing technology, Collective Intelligence. The technology works by automatically detecting, correlating and responding to malware across the entire network of PCs, as opposed to locally, which cuts down on resource and bandwidth consumption.
Protection includes "hidden threats" such as those found in files and email, HTTP/FTP downloads and instant messages.
By hosting information in the cloud and providing the IT administrator with a Web-based console, the solution also reduces total cost of ownership by doing away with the need to invest in dedicated servers for security.
