ViewSonic launches all-in-one PC
28 June, 2009 By Chris Talbot |

ViewSonic has released an all-in-one desktop PC aimed at the knowledge worker, and the company is positioning it as a way to not only save money, but also save space above and below the desk.
The VPC100 All-in-One has a slim, 35mm thin design, which is actually slimmer than some of the company's monitors, said Brian Igoe, vice president of sales for North America at ViewSonic. The unit, which includes four USB 2.0 ports, a DVD/CD Super Multi RW drive, a four-in-one card reader, 802.11a/g wireless connectivity, a 10/100/1000 Ethernet connection, a 1.3-megapixel Webcam and two built-in 2.5-watt speakers, has everything within the monitor, saving space by removing "computer clutter."
"It actually is the ideal piece for the small/medium-sized business. It's a knowledge worker PC. It's not built for the gamer, so it's not an over-powered PC that sometimes finds its way into the SMB space and only uses part of its potential," Igoe said.
He noted that it's ideal for call center and administrative workers, but it's also expected to be picked up by education and government customers because of its cost-effective and green design. Designed for use with productivity applications like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, the VPC100 is powerful enough to execute such applications effectively, he said.
"We think we've got a great solution for SMB," Igoe said.
The VPC100 is a good fit for SMBs, especially in this economy, he said.
"I think right now, there are two key areas. One is cost savings. Every SMB right now is conscious of cost. But two, because it's an all-in-one ... it's a huge space saver," he said.
The VPC100 can sit on a countertop with a foot in depth or in a cubicle area. Its size means many of them can be deployed into call centers in a way that could double or triple the number of operators in the area, he said.
"The display itself is even smaller than some of our current monitor products," Igoe said.
Customer also have the ability to upgrade or replace the RAM and hard drives if they need to, he added.
For ViewSonic's Finch Club channel partners, Igoe said there is a great opportunity to go after customers looking for cost-effective, smaller systems.
"The good news is we got out early with our channel partners, especially our ... solution provider partners, and they've embraced it quite aggressively," he said.
Channel resellers not currently dealing with ViewSonic but that are interested in selling the VPC100 can sign up for the Finch Club program at the company's Web site.
The product is being carried through ViewSonic's distribution partners, including Tech Data, Ingram Micro, Synnex, D&H Distributing and ASI.
