Axcient Cloud Continuity introduces next-gen business continuity for SMBs

By Mark Cox

Mountain View CA-based Axcient which makes a platform that provides comprehensive data backup, business continuity and disaster recovery services to SMBs through partners, has announced the launch of Axcient Cloud Continuity, which provides SMBs with total uptime by making a company's applications as well as data available. In the event of a disaster, businesses can launch their servers in Axcient's Cloud and not just recover data, but have total business continuity.

"This is our biggest platform enhancement in over a year," said Justin Moore, Axcient's CEO. "It enables our partners to launch a virtual office in the Axcient cloud with a couple clicks for total business continuity."

That ability to get back applications and be able to resume work in minutes will completely transform the whole conception of backup and recovery for SMBs, ending the lengthy time between the time data is lost and the time it is fully restored, Moore said.

"With Cloud Continuity, the data is not just available, but also the applications, which lets SMBs get back up and running in a matter of minutes," Moore said. "That's a real game changer for SMBs. The whole system is there, the virtual office in our cloud is a replica of the on-premise office."

Cloud Continuity is offered as a simple monthly service. It can be set up in minutes and does not require users to make any changes to their network environment, install any software, or make any upfront investments.

"We are so far ahead of the market that everyone else is where we were a year ago," Moore said. "People are now making DR simpler but no one is building this kind of platform. SMBs have 3 pillars of concern. They have a peace of mind problem, but we enhance that, because it's no longer about just getting data back, but getting data AND the application, so you don't suffer downtime. They have a complexity issue, in that they otherwise have to work with 3-5 different vendors to get all the kinds of protection we offer, and that's complex for an SMB. And there is also the price issue. We are the only ones with a platform built from the ground up which does all this, all priced for SMBs as a monthly service."

Axcient, an HP partner, built its platform on an HP Converged Infrastructure solution, but Axcient's large partner base -- over 1000 in North America encompasses partners of many vendors.

"We have a large number of HP partners, but also partners of other vendors," he said. "We embrace all partners, whether VARs or MSPs." The company goes to market exclusively through its partners. They also integrate with the comprehensive platform vendors in the industry like Kaseya, Level Platforms and N-able.

Axcient's Cloud Continuity will be available in early November 2011.
